CHSC run an ISA accredited sailing course in July each summer. The course duration varies depending on each level.
The levels are as follows: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 4.5 and Cadets.
Our sailing course is always in high demand but given we are a seasonal sailing club located in a small village, we are restricted in the numbers we can accommodate. This is due to the limited space in the village for boat storage, but also vital to maintain a safe number of sailors on the water at any one time.
Whilst we always welcome new sailors onto our course, demand for our course quite often exceeds the numbers of places available. To that extent:

  • we can only accept sailors onto our course who begin on Level 1 in Crookhaven. Unfortunately, our limited capacity does not allow for new sailors to join onto our course at higher levels.
  • we also give priority to Level 1 applicants who already have siblings currently on the course.
  • All sailors must be 10 years old on or before the first day of their course. Unfortunately, no exceptions can be made in respect to this rule.
  • Once an applicant has been accepted on to Level 1, their place is guaranteed each year as they progress through the levels.
  • Once an applicant has passed each level, they must move up to the next level the following year.
  • Only one level can be completed per applicant each year, i.e. you cannot do Level 1 & Level 2 in the same sailing season.
To apply for our sailing course:

Membership:

Before applying for our course, all applicants must be members of Crookhaven Harbour Sailing Club and membership forms are available on our website, along with a payment link. Our annual family membership fee is €150, regardless of how many children are doing the course. Membership can be paid in December each year for the following year.

Application Forms:

1. We open our sailing course application process in early January each year and the closing date will be stated on the form, usually before the end of January. Our application forms are available on our website (www.crookhavenhsc.com) under the sailing course tab. Late applications after our closing date cannot be accepted. A short form is submitted at this stage with the applicants’ details and course level. Once all applications are processed you will be notified if you have secured a place on the course.

2. Once a place is secured, a more detailed application form must be completed for each course applicant – this form outlines codes of conduct, important medical information, swimming ability, contact details and so forth.

3. Payment in full is usually due by the end of April each year.

Boat Policy

The Club provides the use of club dinghies for Levels 1 & 2 sailors. However sailors are expected to have their own dinghies by Level 3, on the assumption they intend to complete all levels.
